APRIL 15 WAS TAX DAY FOR THE IRS AND SENATOR DON PERATA

Overtaxed Working Men and Women of California Call on Senator Perata to Introduce a Tax Cut – Not a Tax Hike on Our Constitutional Rights

Sacramento, CA – Senator Don Perata (D-East Bay) is the latest extremist to attempt to impose a tax on the U.S. Constitution.  It is un-American in the wake of 9-11 that Senator Perata would attempt to impose a tax on Americans who exercise their Constitutional Rights

In California, millions choose to exercise the right to keep and bear arms, for any number of reasons, among them to protect their homes, businesses and families in these uncertain times.  Record numbers of Californians have taken steps to protect themselves and their families in the wake of 9-11.  Senator Perata has decided that if sales of bullets are up – why not tax them?

“It is a travesty of justice that Senator Perata would try to tax bullets.  Many Californians recall the riots in Los Angeles in the aftermath of the Rodney King verdicts.  The state failed to deploy the California National Guard for several days due to political disagreements.  The LAPD was reduced to mere bystanders as thousands looted, raped and burned in the city.  The nation recalls that small business owners - most of them Asian, Hispanic and African-American - were forced to stand in front of their businesses with their personal guns to attempt to keep out the looters,” stated Kathryn Ballou with Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org).

“Now, Senator Perata wants to tax the ability of Californians to protect and defend themselves.  It is an outrage.  There are a lot of small business owners, hunters and just plain, honest taxpayers in the Senator’s home district and the rest of the State, who will lose money if the Senator gets his power-grab tax enacted.  There is not one single criminal who will pay this tax.  Once again, an extremist attempts to tax the hardworking men and women as they exercise their Constitutional Rights instead of addressing the real issue of getting criminals off of the streets to keep our families, homes and businesses safe,” continued Ms. Ballou.

“Only in California – taxing bullets to help emergency rooms makes about as much sense as taxing soft drinks to fight fat – extremist utopia,” concluded Ms. Ballou.
