BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has named veteran writer AWR Hawkins as the recipient of the 2021 Bill of Rights award.
Hawkins, a prolific journalist who covers firearms issues for Breitbart News, is a past winner of the “Journalist of the Year” award (2015, 2017 and 2019), and the “Gun Rights Defender of the Year” award (2016 and 2020). The award was announced following this year’s Gun Rights Policy Conference, co-hosted by CCRKBA and the Second Amendment Foundation. It is the 36th year for the annual awards.
“AWR Hawkins is among the best and hardest working firearms journalists on the landscape,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “He has shown a talent for getting the news, and a devotion for both the First and Second Amendments. He is continually exposing attacks on our liberties, which makes him one of the most widely read journalists focusing on guns today, and he is on the cutting edge of breaking stories that have a direct impact on the right to keep and bear arms.
After being told he received the “Bill of Rights” award for 2021 Hawkins responded, “What an absolute honor to be recognized as someone who defends the rights God gave us, especially those rights to self-defense and to keep and bear arms.
“The fight to remain an armed citizenry is one that never ends and we must never let up,” he added.
Hawkins has a Masters in U.S. History, with a focus on the Civil War. He has a PhD in Military History, with a focus on the Vietnam War and the U.S. Navy. He resides in Arizona.
