BELLEVUE, WA – With action on S. 397 – the Lawful Protection of Commerce in Arms Act – imminent, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) urges firearms owners to call on their senators to support this critical legislation.

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb noted that S. 397 must be passed as a “clean bill,” with no compromise amendments that would otherwise burden American firearms owners and law-abiding gun makers.

“Anti-gunner extremists have not been able to legislate the Second Amendment out of existence,” Gottlieb observed, “so for the past few years, they have unleashed a flood of harassment lawsuits in an attempt to bankrupt the gun industry. They can’t be allowed to continue what amounts to a litigious war of attrition against a legal industry.”

Added CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron, “For too long, the gun control crowd has been trying to blame firearms manufacturers, retailers and law-abiding gun owners for the acts of criminals. Up to now, their legal onslaught has been unsuccessful, but incredibly costly. It’s time for Congress to stop these spoilers, because ultimately, all these legal battles accomplish is to divert attention away from genuine efforts to reduce violent crime.”

Firearms owners may call and leave a message with their senators at (202) 224-3121, or by visiting the website of the National Shooting Sports Foundation at www.nssf.org, where they will find an internet link for contacting their senators via e-mail.

“Anti-gunners in the Senate were able to poison earlier legislation with unacceptable amendments, causing the sponsors to pull their bill,” Gottlieb recalled. “American gun owners interested in protecting the firearms industry need to act swiftly. Ultimately, their right to legally obtain the firearm of their choice, for hunting, sport shooting or personal protection is at stake. It’s time to put an end to the anti-gun legal demagoguery that has been crippling the firearms industry and threatening our gun rights.”
