Responding to published reports that Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is threatening to veto that state’s recently-passed concealed carry bill, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) today called upon Sunflower State gun owners to contact the governor, and state lawmakers, to demand that this bill become law.
House Bill 2798, known as the Personal and Family Protection Act, passed the Senate 28-12 and the House 78-46.
“Law-abiding Kansas citizens have the right to self-protection,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Why should their lives be considered less valuable than the lives of citizens in 46 other states with concealed carry statutes? It is time for Kansas citizens to have the same self-defense rights as their neighbors in Colorado, Oklahoma and Missouri.”
CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron added, “Kansas residents need to remind state lawmakers that their personal safety is a very important election year issue, and that even if Gov. Sebelius follows through on her threat to veto the measure, they should have the courage and wisdom to override her veto. Thousands of CCRKBA members residing in Kansas want this bill to become law.
“If the governor is so reluctant to support the personal protection rights of her constituents, neighbors and friends,” Waldron suggested, “then perhaps she should simply allow the bill to become law without her signature.”

“The majority of state lawmakers believe this bill is a sensible, responsible piece of legislation,” Gottlieb stated. “We think that if it saves just one life, this bill must become law.”
