BELLEVUE, WA – The decision by anti-gun California Congressman Eric Swalwell to drop his bid for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination means there is just one less anti-gun Democrat in the race for the White House, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

Every other Democrat candidate in the race has an extreme gun control plank in his or her campaign platform. The fact that none of them ever stepped forward to criticize, much less condemn, Swalwell’s extremism says more about the entire field of candidates than just a single California congressman, CCRKBA suggested.

Swalwell announced the end of his campaign during a Monday press conference in California. From the start, the 38-year-old congressman ran on a gun control platform. Early in his campaign, he even alluded to using force against gun owners who refused to surrender their so-called “assault weapons” if they were banned under his presidency.

“Eric Swalwell launched his bid to become president by attacking a fundamental right protected by the Constitution and exercised by more than a hundred million law-abiding citizens,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “In simple terms, he mounted a one-issue campaign against a cornerstone of the Bill of Rights. Of course, in the process, he actually did America a service by showing just how extreme the gun control movement, as well as the gun prohibition mindset, has become.

“But he’s only one candidate,” Gottlieb continued, “and the rest of the field still engages in the kind of anti-rights rhetoric that should be of concern to every voter. There are still about two-dozen Democrats trying to out-do one another when it comes to restricting a fundamental right, and we probably haven’t seen the limit to their gun control proposals.

“What none of these candidates seem to understand is that they are actually pushing people to buy more guns with their outrageous campaign rhetoric,” Gottlieb observed. “If they keep this up, gun and ammunition sales will skyrocket. Swalwell may be gone, but his alarming ideas remain. These Democrat demagogues will be keeping gun makers and retailers busy.”
