WHOSE GOOSE WILL KERRY COOK, HIS OR EVERYONE ELSE’S, GUN RIGHTS GROUP ASKS

Thursday, October 21st, 2004

Senator John Kerry went hunting for a goose in Ohio Thursday morning, but his record of anti-gun votes could mean that America’s gun owners will find it is their “goose getting cooked” if Kerry becomes president, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), said today.

“Pictures are supposed to be worth a thousand words,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “but Kerry has managed to show his true feelings about gun rights with a lot fewer words over the years. He supported legislation that would ban ammunition for hunting rifles. He backs a poorly-drafted bill that could ban semi-automatic shotguns. He voted to allow anti-gun politicians to file frivolous lawsuits against law-abiding firearms manufacturers. He has, in fact, never seen a piece of gun control legislation that he did not vote for.”

Added CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron: “The most import words regarding Kerry’s history on firearms issues, and his potential threat to hunting and gun rights come from organizations that support his candidacy. He’s been endorsed by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Million Mom March, and the anti-hunting Humane USA PAC. Those organizations do not support politicians who defend the rights of gun owners or hunters.”

Gottlieb said Kerry’s efforts to portray himself as a devoted hunter amount to “a carefully choreographed smoke screen.”

“Kerry put on his waterfowl hunting camouflage not to fool the geese, but to fool hunters,” Gottlieb observed. “He is as surely trying to lure outdoorsmen and gun owners into the voting booth as he was bamboozling those honkers over a spread of decoys. Hunters and gun owners need to keep one thing perspective: Look what Kerry did to the geese after he had lulled them into range, believing they were coming in to land among friends.”

Waldron summed it up best, noting, “The goose in that photo should teach gun owners and hunters a valuable lesson. Don’t let Kerry do to you what he just did to that goose.”
